March’s Truck of the Month is a rare cabover 1979 Marmon 86P. Marmon heighway tractors were custom built starting in Indianapolis, Indiana during the early 1960’s as Marmon-Herrington and production was later moved to Garland, Texas and in 1997 Marmon Trucks closed it's doors and ceased production. Although considered rare in the US because so few were made, this beautiful example is even rarer as it is now owned by a trucker in England and may well be the only Marmon in the UK.

Colin Dancer and his brother Barry bought the Marmon on Ebay in 2004 for $4,500 and spent another $5,000 on English import duty taxes and shipping from Indiana to England.

The truck is equipped with a 400 hp Cummins engine along with a Fuller 13 speed transmission and Rockwell rear axles.

Dancer’s restoration included rebuilding the radiator, adding a fan, fabricating a custom exhaust system and adding stainless steel fuel tanks from a Mercedes. He fitted a new front bumper and bull bar assembly. Some welding was done on the fifth wheel coupling as well as other areas on the frame.

On the inside, Colin redid the seat upholstery and discarded the original roof- top air conditioner which was past redemption.

Dancer is especially pleased with the paint job as it had been sprayed outdoors when the weather wasn’t particularly good.

Colin and Barry own a business that moves construction equipment with an ERF tractor pulling a low-loader trailer. They’re still getting accustomed to driving a left-hand drive vehicle on English roads.

Ironically, this particular rare Marmon was once owned by the DuncanPutman.com website administrator, Mark Harter!
