This month we head north , where Mark Polukoshko, from Ardrossan, Alberta, Canada is the proud owner of this 1979 Peterbilt 359.

Originally used for hauling heavy equipment in the Alberta oil fields, Mark's Pete later ended up pulling a gravel belly dump trailer. Eventually it was “retired” to haul the occasional hay bale load for local farmers before being parked in a field near the owner’s home.

Mark put himself through college in the late 90’s driving an almost identical 359. He became a mechanical engineer for General Electric and leads an organization that installs and maintains large industrial power generators across western Canada.

Mark still loved trucks and wanted a twin stick 359. After placing an ad on Kijiji looking for one, he was contacted almost immediately by the owner of a 6x4 who was surprised that anyone would want a two stick transmission. Mark bought it “as is/where is”, mounted new tires and wheels on the front and had it towed home.

Powered by a Caterpillar 3406A, it has a deep reduction plus Spicer 6x4 double overdrive transmission. The tractor is all original but unfortunately suffered from a lot of mice damage to the interior while it was idle.

Polukoshko is in the process of restoring the Pete and plans to use it for personal use. He’ll drive it to truck shows plus will pull a 40 foot Sprinter 5th wheel camper to “the lake.”

Mark states that it won’t be a “full classic resto,” but he will keep the 359 as original as possible. Upgrades will include a 13 inch drop visor, 10 inch straight pipe stacks with 12 foot slash cut, Legacy leather seats, upgraded sleeper, new interior, a 20 inch Texas Blade front bumper, chrome air cleaners, polished tanks and wheels, lots of lights, train horns, classic dual round headlights, and a new paint job in Peterbilt Sovereign Blue with Seminole stripes.

Although the restoration is dauting, Mark perseveres and has posted many videos on YouTube chronicling his progress. Found under his username “359 Twinsticks,” and as of this article, the videos have had almost 300,000 views as well as 2000 subscribers to his channel.

Without having a shop, Polukoshko works on the Pete when the weather permits and when he’s forced inside, enjoys spending time with his wife Nicole and their two daughters, Kaylee and Reese and watching videos of old Petes on YouTube.
