November’s Truck of the Month is another example of vintage iron, a beautifully restored and extremely rare 1964 Diamond T 931C.

The Diamond T is powered by a Cummins 350 Small Cam engine with a Fuller RTO9513 transmission. The rear ends are Rockwell SQHD’s with 4.11 ratio on Neway air-ride suspension.

Features inside the cab of this beautiful rig include: a Pioneer AM/FM CD player, Cobra 29LTD, custom “diamond tuck” interior installed by Bob Murphy of St. Louis, Missouri, high-back Eldorado air-ride seats, 17 gauges, 18 switches, carpet on the floor and stainless steel polished dash panels.

Owner Richard Bula, who, incidentally, is the same age as this eye-catcher, bought the tractor from his Uncle Eddie in 1983. After restoring the Diamond T, Bula’s first display of his work was at the 1993 American Truck Historical Society National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The 931C originally had a 250 Cummins with a 5 speed Fuller with a 3 speed Eaton rear end on a Hendrickson Shear ride suspension. The wheel base was 155 inches. Since then, “Richie” stretched the wheel base to 204 inches, installed a 102 inch sliding fifth wheel and added six inch straight pipes. The Diamond T still has it’s Rockwell center-point steering and now sports Accuride 22.5 aluminum wheels. For better ease of entry, The tractor now has Freightliner aluminum “ladder” steps. Kenworth 105 gallon fuel tanks were installed and the entire electrical and air systems were updated. The tractor was built in Lansing, Michigan.

Richie’s neighbor, Jim Wanca, painted the Diamond T in an old potato warehouse using PPG basecoat/clearcoat Medium Jade Metallic with Peterbilt black and gold pinstriping.

Richie has been married to his wife Terese since 1998 and they have a son Alex “Archie Bunker.” The family resides in Antigo, Wisconsin.

Bula spends his downtime keeping the truck maintained and is restoring a 1974 42 foot Great Dane air-ride insulated van trailer and a 1969 White 4000.
